Q Media M4 - Q. How do I combine a subwoofer with an M4 Soundbar?

Answer:

The subwoofer output measures flat at low frequencies (down to 20Hz) and is 3dB down at 240Hz, rolling off at approximately 12dB/octave. Adding a subwoofer provides bass extension and extra weight, particularly when used with movie soundtracks.

Using an RCA connection between the M4 and the subwoofer, set the controls of the subwoofer to the following default settings:

The 'Level' (volume) should be set approximately halfway, the crossover to between 100-120Hz,  'Phase Invert' to zero and the power to AUTO or ON.  Play some stereo music you are familiar with and experiment with the 'Phase Invert' setting and 'Level' control until you hear a seamless blend between the soundbar and the subwoofer. The 'Phase Invert' setting depends upon the position of the subwoofer and soundbar relative to the listener. If you can hear the subwoofer standing out it's too loud. But these things are very much a matter of taste and impacted by room size and shape.
