Q Media - Q. Why is there no sound when watching Netflix or Amazon Prime?

Answer:

All Q Media products are two channel stereo units and therefore cannot decode 5.1 surround information that is broadcast from time to time on mainstream HD channels. Netflix and other apps also outputs 5.1 audio content which cannot be decoded. To ensure that audio is heard through your Q-Media product, you will need to ensure the TV's audio settings are set to two channel stereo/PCM output (for assistance on how to do this, please refer to your TV's user manual).

We have found the following needs to be applied on certain TV's; in addition to setting your TV to PCM stereo output within its settings menu, you may also need to change this setting whilst you have something playing within Netflix, Amazon Prime or similar apps on your TV. Here's how we did it on a Panasonic TV:

1. Open Amazon Prime or Netflix via the TV App section.
2. Choose your film or series and start it playing.
3. Pause the show and access the settings of the Panasonic TV via the Viera menu
4. Scroll down to SPDIF selection and you will note that it is set to AUTO
5. Press enter on your remote and it will give you the option of now selecting PCM
6. Resume the show and you should have audio in 2 channel PCM
