Q Active - Q. The TV remote is not allowing me to adjust the volume of the loudspeakers?
Answer.
If connecting the TV via the 'Digital Optical' output to the Hub 'Digital Optical' input, when this connection is made you will be able to make volume adjustments via the Hub remote. But in the vast majority of cases the TV remote will no longer work as the 'Digital Optical' output on a TV is seen as being used with an attached amplifier and uses a fixed output which is controlled via the amplifiers remote, in this instance, the amplifier is the QA200/400 via the Hub remote.
To use the TV remote, you'll need to ensure that your TV is connected to the Hub via HDMI (ARC), this allows volume commands to be sent over the HDMI cable between the two devices, a method of control known as CEC (Consumer Electronic Control). You may also see the TV's onscreen volume icons appear when making adjustments. In this setup, the TV's remote can also be used to adjust the volume.
In both the above cases you need to ensure in the TV's audio settings that 'Digital Audio' is set to PCM/PCM 2CH/PCM Stereo, it cannot be left on Auto or a multi-channel format as multi-channel cannot be decoded by the Hub.
